As we get older, it becomes more important to take care of ourselves and ensure that we’re giving our bodies what they need. For many people, this means a drastic and unwanted change in diet. Nobody wants to stop eating the food that they’ve grown accustomed to over an entire lifetime, but sometimes sacrifices have to be made. Thankfully, you might not have to make too many alterations, as many of the foods we all enjoy are actually good for us. With the ability to actually improve our health and stave off disease, superfoods are proven to be much more powerful and effective than other types of food....

Julianne Moore wins Golden Globe for Film About Alzheimer’s

Thursday, January 15th, 2015

We’re always doing our best to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease (like participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s!) and helping people through the tough times brought on by the affliction, but it’s hard to raise better awareness than a Hollywood feature film. On Sunday, Julianne Moore won a Golden Globe for Best Actress – Drama for her role in the movie Still Alice, a story about a professor at Columbia who struggles with a diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s...

How One Man’s Love for His Mom Went Viral

Thursday, January 1st, 2015

This week, a video posted by Reddit user Joe Fraley went viral, giving us a rare and touching look into a family’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. In the video, Joe is singing a song to his mother with Alzheimer’s, but his post explained that he can no longer play for her because she doesn’t recognize him anymore. The story itself is sad for us to hear, but the way the video has spread online is truly inspiring. Although doctors and researchers continue to fight against the disease and seek treatments, it sometimes feels like the best we can do as a community is wait helplessly...

Fighting Alzheimer’s One Photo at a Time

Monday, December 1st, 2014

You’re probably familiar with the popular internet and social media movement, “throwback Thursday,” or #TBT as it is commonly displayed in social media posts that are shared through the use of hashtags (#). Tennyson Court Celebrates Veterans Day

Saturday, November 1st, 2014

On Tuesday November 11th, Tennyson Court opened its doors to the public in honor of Veteran’s Day. We had a free breakfast buffet with Scott Celani performing on guitar for a packed house of Tennyson Court families and residents. We were proud to honor all of our residents who served in the armed forces and be able to share a small snippet of their stories. We presented each resident with a certificate and took a photograph with them holding it. As a special guest, we were honored to host John Beard from Channel 2 News and recognize him for his services in the armed forces and his continued service to the Buffalo area...

Time to Make the Donuts

Friday, October 31st, 2014

This week at Tennyson Court, our residents got to enjoy the fun treat of making donuts. It’s not every day that we get to smell the mouthwatering aromas of fresh donuts wafting through our building, so it was an enjoyable morning to say the least. Residents had a blast rolling out the dough, frying up the donuts and finishing them off with glaze, cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar. After our treats cooled off, we set them up on decorative platters and delivered them to each of the houses so residents could enjoy them with lunch. Nothing like making old-fashioned homemade donuts on a cool autumn morning!

Wednesday, October 15th, 2014

This week our residents participated in the official Tennyson Court chili cook-off. What better way to warm up on a cool fall day than to stay inside and eat some delicious chili? The 6 contest entries we received included some awesome variations of the classic favorite like white cheddar chili and vegetarian 6-bean chili. Our residents were the lucky taste testers who got to try each contest entry and vote for their first, second and third place favorites. After a close vote, our esteemed winner was Nursing Scheduler/AL Supervisor Jodi Battistella with her “Jodi’s Original Chili.”
